Community

Physicians who live and practice in Dufferin County experience the best of all worlds.

Professionally, physicians work among respectful and supportive colleagues. Physicians are fortunate to practice in a hospital that offers a wide range of specialist services, yet also encourages all family physicians to be involved with and, as appropriate, most responsible for their own in-patients. Headwaters Health Care Centre has repeatedly been recognized for its excellence of care by the Canadian Hospital Accreditation Association. Through the involvement of Rural Ontario Medical Program (ROMP), physicians have the opportunity to be involved in Family Practice Resident training programs across the region.

The community supports many local artists, both visual and performing, with a number of local art studios, and several programs and venues for performing arts. Orangeville boasts its own orchestra, and annually hosts the Blues and Jazz Festival, drawing thousands of visitors from across Canada each year. Theatre Orangeville has been in existence since 1994 with performances at the historic Opera House. We are fortunate to be within an hour’s drive of Toronto, with all the arts and sports events it has to offer, without having to cope with the congestion of, not to mention the expense of living in, Toronto.

Education

Dufferin County schools offer quality education, with public and separate and private education offered at all levels. Informal education is offered at the many arts studios in the region. Local children regularly represent Canada at international dance competitions, and many of our young people are found performing in professional theatres in Toronto, on television and even in Hollywood feature films. Those of us who ourselves grew up in Toronto and other large urban centres, and who have raised our families in Dufferin County, feel that our children have enjoyed opportunities equal to, if not exceeding, what they would have found growing up anywhere else.
